课程简介:

本课程是为从学生向新手水平的实践者过渡而设计的。在二年级、三年级的基础上构建并拓展。考察健康照顾组织相关的管理、领导、变革理论、组织理论、角色理论、角色代言人(role advocacy)质量提升和风险管理的基本原理。

 

课程目标:

  • 解释护理管理者在护理工作及优质服务方面的角色。
  • 比较几种组织理论的异同。
  • 分析几种领导/管理理论,并分析每一种理论的主要前提(preposition)。
  • 比较组织内的管理与权利基础。
  • 人员管理、预算、排班与护理管理者直接相关,对这几个方面进行评价。
  • 将变革过程运用到临床情景中。
  • 练习群体动态及团队建立技能。
  • 在危急护理情景中运用质量提升和风险管理技术。

 

单元目标:本课程分为四个单元。

第一单元:对护理管理与护理组织的理解

  • 界定与护理目标相关的责任(accoutability)
  • 对几种组织理论进行评价
  • 阐述护理管理者的作用
  • 分析不同护理服务系统的差异
  • 讨论提高护理生产率的方法
  • 列举与判断正误有关的关键概念

第二单元:护理管理中的重要技能

  • 识别护理管理者(信息发出者)信息的潜在“接收者”
  • 讨论各种动机过程理论
  • 分辨几种主要领导方式的异同
  • 讨论压力管理方法
  • 将评判性思维与领导/管理实践经验相联系
  • 个体生产效率及决策与群体生产效率及决策的区别

第三单元:人力资源管理技能

  • 列出新员工招聘策略的基本要素
  • 分析促进员工发展的支持系统
  • 定义“教练法”及如何运用“教练法”
  • 讨论档案记录员工表现的重要性
  • 比较有意和无意旷工的不同
  • 讨论护理组织与护理协会的关系
  • 讨论组织或机构中管理者的角色功能

第四单元:护理工作中的基本生存技能

  • 解释与护理管理者工作直接相关的预算成分
  • 评价变革过程的理论模型
  • 列出计划对护理工作的某一个方面进行变革
  • 列出风险管理方案的基本要素
  • 讨论质量评价中质量保证和质量促进的意义
  • 解释一些因素如角色冲突和专业内确定性(intraprofessional decisiveness)给护士带来的冲突
  • 讨论权力(power)来源及其对护理的影响
  • 阐述成功护理管理的关键行为根源

Nursing Management and Evaluation

Course Code: 1000229           College: HOPE School of Nursing

Semester: Spring               Intended Students: The fourth Year Students

Course Content:

The purpose is to facilitate the enrichment and development of the abilities of the participants through the attainment of new competencies related to leadership and management through a variety of learning experiences that will enhance their administrative abilities. New tools arising from various theories and their application in practice will be the focus for the participants.  The strengths of the participants will be built upon and the ability to adapt theory culturally appropriate will be paramount.

 

Course Objective:

1. Interpret the role of the nurse manager as it relates to nursing care and quality services.

2. Compare several theories of organization.

3. Analyze several theories of leadership/management and the major preposition of each.

4. Compare management and power bases in the organization.

5. Critique staffing, budget, scheduling components that directly involve the nurse manager.

6. Apply the change process in a clinical setting.

7. Practice group dynamics and team building skills.

8. Apply quality improvement and risk management techniques in the acute care setting.

 

Course Outline:

This course is divided into four modules.  The written components will be enhanced by classroom discussion and activities.  The class weeks and modules are as follows:

Module 1  Understanding Nursing Management and Organizations

Module 2  Key Skills in Nursing Management

Module 3  Human Resource Management Skills

Module 4  Basic Survival Skills in Nursing

 

Module Objectives:

Module 1:           

       l. Define accountability as it relates to the goals of nursing.

    2.  Evaluate several theories of organization.

       3.  Critique the function of the nurse manager.

       4.  Analyze difference nursing care delivery systems.

       5.  Discuss methods to improve nursing productivity.

     6.  Name the key concepts that underlie decisions about what is right and wrong.

 

Module 2:    

       1.  Identify the potential "receivers" of communication from the nurse manager  "sender".

      2.  Discuss the various process theories of motivation.

       3.  Differentiate between the major styles of leadership.

       4.  Discuss methods of managing stress.

       5.  Relate critical thinking to practical experience in leadership/management.

     6.  Differentiate between individual productivity and decision making and those of the group.

 

Module 3:

       1.  List the elements of a recruiting strategy.

       2.  Analyze support systems to facilitate staff development.

       3.  Define "coaching" and how it is used.

       4.  Discuss the importance of documenting employee performance.

       5.  Compare the distinction between voluntary and involuntary absenteeism.

       6.  Discuss the relationship between nursing professional organizations and unions.

       7.  Define the role of the manager with a unionized staff.

 

Module 4:

       1.  Identify those budget components with which the nurse manager is directly involved.

       2.  Evaluate theoretical models of the change process.

       3.  Plan change for a component of nursing practice.

       4.  List the components of a risk management program.

       5.  Discuss what is meant by quality assurance and quality improvement in evaluation.

6.  Explain how factors such as role conflict and intraprofessional decisiveness lead to conflict for      nurses.

       7.  Discuss power sources and their influence in nursing.

       8.  Identify several sources of the key behaviors for successful nursing management.
